Blue Desert is a tapestry I made in 2022, showing two women trapped in what I see as a ‘blue desert’, an isolated place where they only have each other to interact with and where water is scarce. Both women are crying, the tears connecting them in an endless cycle of rebirth and growth, in which the stranded woman is held and comforted by the second woman that emerges from her tears. I see this second woman sprouting from sadness as the new version of us that is born once we heal and nurture ourselves. The work was made as a self-portrait.
