Burning of the Witch is a work in progress that depicts a ‘witch burning’ in front of onlookers. Most of the people shown on the right side of the tapestry depict historical characters (all men) who have actively popularized and participated in witch huntings, either through the power church, the power of the state, or through popular writings. Some of the men who are not historical characters are Adam and God, painted in the way they are shown on my painting No One Likes Women Who Talk from 2025, and an apple vendor who is being robbed of one of his apples by a young boy. None of the men look at the woman being burned at the stake, all are busy with something else or with each other. On the left side of the painting are only women, all of them embody an archetype that would have been historically vulnerable to be seen as a witch. All women are modelled after my friends.
